Remember all those history lessons about the glory of Rome?
The ones conveniently glossing over the whole "enslaving and exploiting people" thing?
Well, indie dev Biggus Dickus Games sure hasn't forgotten. Their latest title, Slaves of Rome, puts you in the scandals of a slave trader in 20 AD. Your primary objective? Acquire, train, and sell human chattel to line your coffers... all while getting your end away in delicious 3D sex scenes.
Educational!
We first tried Slaves of Rome for its VR functionality. Admittedly, it wasn't built from the ground-up for virtual reality (seems it was patched in at a later date).
That doesn't detract from some pretty damn satisfying Roman fuckery in the confines of a VR headset.
Once you have a slave in your possession, gameplay revolves around a cycle of training, exploiting, and selling your fleshy property. Oh, and wandering the streets of Rome.
You'll need to manage your slave's fear and affection through a system of rewards and punishments.
The punishment segments are where things take a turn for the dark, letting you brutalize your slave with whips and god-knows-what-else until one of you can't take anymore. It's visceral, at times uncomfortable, and not for the faint of heart.
No doubt many of you will find it delightfully satisfying, too.
Slaves of Rome is a fresh take on the BDSM genre with some actual substance (and a semi-accurate look at Roman sub-dom lifestyle!).
This isn't your typical click-through visual novel. It's a full-blown 3D action RPG that delivers some cracking visuals, thanks to Unreal Engine.
You start the game as a Roman slave owner (male or female - your call), building up your own little empire of servants one training session at a time. You'll start by choosing just one slave (again, male or female), with the goal of working up to a full harem.
There's legitimate gameplay here involving trading, training skill trees, and mission management. Each slave comes with their own backstory and personality, so you're not just collecting faceless NPCs.
Obviously, the Rome setting makes for a unique backdrop to the fucking and sucking that brought you to the dance.
Here's what to expect:
Built in Unreal Engine, and it shows.
The character models are detailed, with proper facial animations and body physics.
While it won't compete with AAA titles, it's miles ahead of most adult games. Performance-wise, you'll want some decent hardware to keep things smooth.
Let's be clear, this game doesn't shy away from its adult content.
The BDSM elements are front and center, though they've implemented them with more thought than most.
There's a proper "training" system that ties into the game mechanics, and your choices actually affect how your slaves develop. It's more nuanced than just "click button, see animation" - your management style impacts both gameplay and story progression.
Rome makes a great backdrop for living out your Dom fantasies, and some of the set-pieces are pretty damn hot.
